Solar Gardens: Power to the People - Environment - Utne Reader

With solar gardens, or community-owned solar power, neighbors team up to buy panels and share the benefits of renewable energy through virtual net metering.

Sure, solar power is clean and renewable—but in most cases it's also expensive and impractical. In fact, when roof angle, direction, and shade are taken into account, only 20 percent of American households capture enough rays to make solar useful—and potential payoff won't help with a down payment on panels.

Easier Distributed Interconnect Emerges in California | Renewable Energy News Article

New Hampshire, USA -- The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) last week handed developers of mid-sized, wholesale renewable energy systems, primarily solar, an important revision to its interconnection procedures, known as Rule 21.

The unanimously approved revision, say stakeholder participants in the year-long process, establishes several new national best practices, and removes barriers to continued growth of the state's renewable energy market.

Conservation group wants more scrutiny of solar projects - San Bernardino County Sun

The National Parks Conservation Association released a report Tuesday with recommendations on how federal and state agencies could best move forward with solar projects in the Mojave Desert with minimal impact on natural resources and wildlife.

Citing flaws with three in-the-works solar projects that were part of a streamlined permitting process advocated by the Obama Administration, the National Parks Conservation Association, or NPCA, encourages collaboration between federal and state agencies and other stakeholders when evaluating solar project proposals.

California Community Solar Bill Bites the Dust : Greentech Media

Community solar power got left out in the cold by the the politicians in Sacramento.

A bill that would have given renters and others who don't have a roof of their own a chance to get in on the money-saving solar action -- as they now can in Colorado under similar legislation -- died without a vote late last week when the California State Legislature adjourned for the year.
